Terms of Service

Last updated: April 30, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of capitolmarkets.org and any related products operated by Capitol Markets (“we”, “us”). By using the site, creating an account, or subscribing to alerts, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use the site.

1. Account & Use

You may browse Capitol Markets without an account. Some features (watchlists, email alerts, push notifications) require sign-in. Sign-in is passwordless — we email you a magic link or accept a Google OAuth sign-in. You’re responsible for the security of the email account you sign in with.

You agree to use the site only for lawful purposes. Don’t use the site to harass any person (including the politicians whose disclosures we display), to scrape or rip the database wholesale, to circumvent rate limits, or to misrepresent your identity. We may terminate accounts that violate these rules.

2. Public-record content

The trade disclosures, committee assignments, and politician profiles displayed on Capitol Markets come from official U.S. government public-record sources. We aggregate, normalize, score, and present this data; we don’t generate it. Where appropriate we add commentary identifying structural patterns (e.g. politicians trading sectors their committees regulate). All such commentary is editorial in nature and based on the public record.

We do not accuse any politician of insider trading or other illegal conduct. Trades disclosed under the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act of 2012 are legal. If you believe specific content on the site is factually inaccurate or unfair, contact legal@capitolmarkets.org; we will review and correct in good faith.

2A. News-media use of disclosure data

Capitol Markets is a news publication. We aggregate, analyze, and report on financial disclosure filings made by Members of Congress and senior federal officials under the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act of 2012 and the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 (5 U.S.C. app. § 101 et seq.). We obtain and use these public records for editorial dissemination to the general public, as permitted by 5 U.S.C. app. § 105(c)(B).

We do not use disclosure data to determine or establish the credit rating of any individual, to solicit money for any political, charitable, or other purpose, or for any other purpose proscribed by § 105(c). Subscribers obtain access to our curated editorial digest and alert routing; subscribers do not obtain a license to redistribute, resell, or use disclosure data for any of the prohibited purposes listed above. Re-publication of Capitol Markets editorial content is governed by § 6 below; re-publication of underlying disclosure data is governed by the disclosure agency’s terms.

3. Not investment advice

Capitol Markets is an editorial and research tool. Nothing on the site — not a leaderboard ranking, not a conflict flag, not a price chart, not an alert, not an article, not an email — is a recommendation to buy or sell any security. We are not an investment adviser, broker-dealer, or financial planner. Don’t make trading decisions based on what you read here. Consult a licensed professional for your situation.

4. Subscriptions

Capitol Markets is free to use during beta. If we launch paid subscriptions, the prices, features, and billing terms will be disclosed before you commit. Subscriptions process through Stripe and renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel anytime from your account page; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period (no partial refunds for unused time unless required by law).

5. Alerts & communications

When you sign up for alerts, the email course, or push notifications, you consent to receive those communications. Every email and push contains a one-click unsubscribe. We don’t use your contact info for any purpose beyond what you signed up for.

6. Intellectual property

The Capitol Markets brand, logos, and original editorial content are ours. The underlying disclosure data is government public-record — nobody owns it. Politician photos come from public-domain federal sources (the unitedstates.github.io image set, bioguide.congress.gov, congress.gov) or fair-use Wikimedia Commons. Company logos are displayed via the DuckDuckGo Icons CDN as nominative use.

You may share, screenshot, and link to Capitol Markets pages freely — we encourage it. You may not duplicate the site or its data feed at scale or use Capitol Markets content in a competing product without prior written permission.

7. As-is, limitation of liability

Capitol Markets is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. We make no guarantees about uptime, accuracy, completeness, or freshness of the data. We are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from your use of the site, including any trading or investment losses. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or $0 if you’re a free-tier user).

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of the site, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third party’s rights.

9. Termination

You may delete your account anytime from /account. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that we believe pose a risk to other users or to the integrity of the platform.

10. Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. You and Capitol Markets agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the site will be resolved through individual, confidential, binding arbitration in Delaware, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in court for intellectual-property infringement. You waive the right to participate in a class action or class arbitration.

11. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the “last updated” date and, for significant changes, notify account holders by email. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
